I have worked with the students at Burgess Hill APC for almost two academic years. They have learned about setting up businesses, marketing and managing money from employers who have visited to talk to them, and have worked in thematic groups to put that learning into practice.
It has been fascinating to see individual and group talents come through in the different enterprise activities in that time. Highlights for me include students:
- Laying on a fantastic afternoon tea for volunteers, teachers and governors in summer 2018, selling jewellery and jams, and running a raffle for those who attended
- Engaging with a self employed designer on how she used different materials for her laser cut designs and being inspired in their own creations
- Creating a garden from scratch, growing vegetables and plants
- Persuasively presenting to the senior management team as to why this website would be a good way to learn more about online media as well as share with others how the APC nurtures and supports young people
Alongside enterprise it has been great to work with year 11s and increasingly with year 10s on their employability skills, drawing on their enterprise achievements as examples for CVs and interviews.
